Move Over for Police; Maryland Tickets 119 Drivers
Police in Maryland ticketed more than 100 drivers on Wednesday as part of an initiative to curb distracted and aggressive driving. State police and the Montgomery County Police Department worked to enforceMaryland's "Move Over" law and high-occupancy vehicle laws. Police stopped 129 vehicles, issuing 119 tickets and giving 69 warnings.
The law requires a driver who approaches an emergency vehicle with its lights on from behind to proceed with caution and, if possible, to move into another lane. Several state troopers from the Rockville Barracks have been hit by cars that failed to move over, police said.
A state police cruiser was sideswiped on I-270 last month by a driver who police believed was drunk.
