Beaumont, Texas Police Officer Killed When Struck by Chase Suspect

A capital murder warrant was issued for a suspect that allegedly struck and killed a Beaumont police officer who was standing outside of his patrol car during a chase late Friday. Police said 36-year-old Bryan Hebert, a 10-year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department, was trying to stop John Nero on Dowlen Road near Ivanhoe, close to Phelan, around 10:40 p.m. when the incident occurred. Police said Hebert had stopped and gone to the back of his unit to pull out spike strips to stop Nero, 30, who was driving a 2008 Maroon Dodge Nitro. Police said Nero intentionally struck the front of the Hebert’s unit head-on, pushing the back of the patrol unit into the officer while he was still behind it.
