Clear Channel Outdoor Donates Billboards Promoting Move Over Law
Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Clear Channel Outdoor the global leader in outdoor advertising donated ten billboards educating motorists in New Castle County Delaware about the state’s Move Over Law.  Clear Channel contacted the New Castle County Volunteer Firefighters Association and offered to provide the boards at the cost of the paper. The Firefighters Association chose to use the donation to promote highway incident scene safety in part due to the tragic death of Firefighter/EMT Michelle Smith who was killed in 2009 on the roadway while providing care to an accident victim.  Smith was a member of the Delaware City Fire Company in New Castle County.

Members of the CVVFA Emergency Responder Safety Institute worked with the Firefighters Association to gather various responders together for the photo. In addition to public safety responders, towers and roadway workers were included in the picture as all these groups are covered under the DE Move Over Statute.

The photo was taken on the approach of the Delaware Memorial Bridge connecting the States of NJ and DE one of the busiest bridges in the nation. Representatives pictured were from the Delaware State Police, Delaware City Fire Company, Delaware River and Bay Authority, Newark DE Police Department, New Castle County Police Department, Harold’s Brake Service of Wilmington DE and the Delaware State Fire Police.

The billboards are on heavily traveled roadways.  The project represents the best in public-private cooperation providing valuable education to motorists.
