Respondersafety.com is conducting a photo survey on the most effective striping on NON Fire Apparatus intended to prevent rear end collisions. Since 2009 NFPA 1901 the Motorized Fire Apparatus Standard has included the requirement for striping on at least 50% of the rear of all fire apparatus. The new NFPA Ambulance Standard includes a similar requirement.

Respondersafety.com asked our Chief of Training Ron Moore to look at innovative agencies that recognize the danger of collision to the rear of other emergency and service vehicles. He is assembling a program to bring these good ideas to the attention of others in the police, fire, ems, DOT, public works and towing and recovery communities.

What makes the agencies unique is that there is no national standard for marking these vehicles. Agencies have marked their vehicles because they recognize the significant safety factor gained by increased conspicuity to the rear.

A photo presentation of many of these vehicles is in production. We need your photos to add to the program. Please submit good quality photos of rear marking along with the name and location of the agency. We will be pleased to include photo credits upon request.
