FIRE CORPS GRADUATES TRAFFIC CONTROL ASSISTANTS

The Goshen Pennsylvania Fire Company and the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association (CVVFA)graduated a class of special volunteer Traffic Control Assistants in a ceremony held at the Montgomery County PA Fire Training Academy.

The graduates began their journey as volunteers who had already received community emergency response training from the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) or the American Red Cross. The CVVFA in conjunction the Goshen Fire Company conducted the training project under a Cooperative Agreement with the United States Fire Administration supported by Fire Corps.

The Saturday night graduation banquet sponsored by the "Fire Store" of Coatsville PA capped a summer long series of class room activity and field training conducted under the supervision of the Goshen's administration and training staff.

Guest instructors included Superintendent Denis Onieal of the National Fire Academy, Jack Sullivan Director of Training for the CVVFA Emergency Responder Safety Institute, Chief Allen Baldwin of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and former police officer Larry Glick now Outreach Director for Congressman Patrick Murphy (PA-8).

Students learned the culture of law enforcement and the history of the fire service. They were trained to handle traffic at planned special events as well as emergency traffic control. Each student was presented with a Graduation Certificate, a Certified Flagger Card and a Public Safety vest at the banquet as proud family members looked on.

Course materials including a "How To" manual for police and fire jurisdictions is being produced along with a detailed Responder Safety Course taught at the final session. These materials and more will be available free on the training section of this page before December 31.
