New “Move It” Public Service Announcement

Respondersafety.com Releases New “Move It” Public Service Announcement

Respondersafety.com has released a new thirty-second public service announcement (PSA) showing drivers how to comply with the Move It law, which is also known as the Fender Bender law and the Steer It Clear It law. This law, currently in force in about half of the U.S. states, requires drivers who have been involved in a minor accident with no serious injuries to move drivable vehicles out of the lanes of travel. Contrary to popular belief, insurance companies and the police do not require vehicles to be left in place after an accident. If there are no serious injuries and the involved vehicles are drivable, the safest practice is to move the vehicles out of the lanes of travel.

“The dangers of secondary incidents are well-established, as are the benefits of keeping the roadways clear,” says Steve Austin, project manager of Respondersafety.com, “Yet, many drivers don’t know about the Move It law or the safety advantages of pulling off the road after a minor accident. We think this PSA is a pretty memorable way to drive home the main safety point: move your car off the road after a minor accident.”The PSA is available at Respondersafety.com and on the Respondersafety.com YouTube Channel (youtube.com/Respondersafety). The PSA can be downloaded and distributed freely.

Funding for the PSA was provided by the Federal Highway Administration. Stonehouse Media Incorporated produced the PSA under contract from Respondersafety.com, a project of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
