Mission Statement
Created as a Committee of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association, the Institute serves as an informal advisory panel of public safety leaders committed to reducing deaths and injuries to America's Emergency Responders. Members of the Institute, all highly influential and expert in their fields, are personally dedicated to the safety of the men and women who respond to emergencies on or along our nation's streets, roads and highways. Members of the Institute include trainers, writers, managers, government officials, technical experts and leaders who through their individual efforts and collective influence in the public safety world can bring meaningful change.

Mass. police officer struck while working traffic detail


(NECN: Brad Puffer, Weymouth, Mass.) - *Update 4:30pm: District Attorney William Keating says the officer who was struck, has died of his injuries. The driver has been cited.*
A Weymouth, Massachusetts police officer is being treated for serious injuries after being struck by a car while working a traffic detail.
The accident happened just before ten o'clock Monday morning at Route 18 and West Street. The officer was taken to South Shore Hospital.
A Mazda pickup truck apparently struck the officer, when it collided with another car. National Grid workers reportedly had to pull the truck off of the officer.
The driver of the car stopped after the accident. No charges were immediately filed.

BOSTON --

A Weymouth police officer was in serious condition Monday after being struck by a car while working a detail.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that a driver in his late 70s hit the detail officer at the intersection of West Street and Route 18 in Weymouth.

According to public records, the car is registered to a 79-year-old man.

According to witnesses, the driver seemed unable to react after the crash, and a National Grid worker had to release accelerator and put car in reverse, Harper said.

The officer was taken to South Shore Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.
