California: CHP Officer Struck by Motorist in Malibu Is Airlifted to Hospital in Serious Condition
The California Highway Patrol was investigating a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in Malibu that injured one of its officers. The 39-year-old officer was struck around 9:15 p.m. on Topanga Canyon Boulevard just north of Pacific Coast Highway, according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.
The officer was standing outside her patrol car directing traffic at the scene of an earlier non-injury crash when she was struck by a passing motorist, according to the CHP. Several witnesses ran to help her. One of them grabbed her radio and used it to call for help, Officer Leland Tang said.
The officer, a 14 year veteran of the CHP, was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center in serious condition, aerial video of the crash scene showed. The suspected hit-and-run driver sped away from the crash scene but was apprehended a few miles away.
