California: Two San Leandro Officers Struck, Injured by Fleeing Suspect Vehicle

Police in San Leandro this morning are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run incident that injured two officers Sunday when they were struck by a fleeing suspect vehicle. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. The officers were responding to a shoplifting incident thatoccurred at the Safeway at 699 Lewelling Blvd., police said.

The officers attempted to stop the suspect, but he ran to his vehicle and struck the officers as he was fleeing the area in his vehicle. Both officers were transported to the hospital for treatment.

One officer was treated and released from the hospital hours later. The second officer is still in the hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening. The suspect remained at large this morning.
