Florida: Police open fire at McDonald's, officer struck by stolen car, Fort Lauderdale cops say

Bullets flew at a fast-food restaurant on a busy Fort Lauderdale corner during the lunch hour Monday while officers were investigating a report of a stolen car, police said.

After two passengers bolted out of a stolen Ford Fusion, the driver struck a cop while leaving a McDonald's parking lot at 2300 W. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Keven Dupree said. Two police officers began shooting at the car.

"Officers did draw their weapons and fire shots," Dupree said. The number of bullets fired or whether any hit the driver was not yet known and were part of the unfolding investigation, he said.

The driver continued his escape and the car jumped the curb onto West Sunrise Boulevard and traveled west in the eastbound lanes, Dupree said.
