Michigan: Tow truck driver nearly struck by irate driver's vehicle in Melvindale

A 28-year-old River Rouge woman was arrested for reckless driving in Melvindale May 8, after allegedly attempting to ram a city tow truck driver with her vehicle when retrieving it from the impound lot. The tow truck driver, from Gene’s Towing in Detroit, brought the woman’s vehicle in earlier that morning on police request due to her not having insurance, according to the police report. A few hours later, the tow truck driver was ordered back to the police department to return the vehicle to the owner. Upon his arrival, the vehicle owner was irate. After entering her vehicle she took off abruptly, spinning the tires, before driving at a high speed directly toward him and then making an abrupt left turn nearly spinning the vehicle completely around, he told police.

The tow truck driver allegedly only avoided being hit by her vehicle by pressing himself against the impound gate, and the front of his body was later struck with her vehicle door. The woman was upset and yelling at the driver because her glove compartment had been inventoried, the report said.  She then refused to move her vehicle from the entrance/exit of the impound lot, until her sister eventually moved the vehicle for her to resolve the situation. Police spoke with the woman and her sister to get written statements and the woman continued to be uncooperative, yelling curse words about her glove compartment and telling the officer that the tow truck driver “looked just fine.” However, it was clear to police that the tow truck driver was visibly shaken from the incident, the report said.
