Mississippi: Officer struck by vehicle is fighting for his life

If you talk to people in Yalobusha County, you hear nothing but good things about Officer Milton Hervey.

"He is a good guy. He's a real spiritual man. He's at church every time the doors is open," said Chief Mark Martin of the Coffeeville Police Department

"You're not going to find a more honest, hardworking individual that lets his faith drive his life,” says John Champion, the district attorney.

They’re hoping good things are ahead for Hervey after what happened to him Friday night.

Police say the officer was directing traffic at Highways 330 and 7 when he was struck by a truck driven by Dwayne Byford of Coffeeville. Byford is in jail on a drug charge while law enforcement waits to hear if he was drunk the night of the accident.

As for Hervey, he’s at the Med in Memphis while family and friends keep him in mind."I wish him the best. My prayers go out to his family and friends and everything. I hope he get better,” says Linwood Baker, a longtime friend of Hervey.
