Missouri: Bella Villa officer injured in South County crash

Friday, March 8, 2019

A Bella Villa police officer was taken to a hospital after his cruiser was hit by a minivan on the city's edge Thursday afternoon, St. Louis County Police said.

Police responded about 3:11 p.m. to the crash in the 3900 block of Bayless Avenue, Officer Benjamin Granda said. The avenue is between Interstate 55 and Lemay Ferry Road and runs through part of Bella Villa, a city in South County of about 850 people.

The other driver, a woman, was not injured, Granda said. Her minivan struck the police cruiser's driver side, he said.

The officer was trapped in his vehicle after the crash and had to be rescued, Granda said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening. He is 32 years old and has been a police officer with Bella Villa for two years.

The block was closed to traffic after the crash.
