New Hampshire: Woodstock police officer injured after being struck by car
A Woodstock police officer is recovering after he was hit by a car early Monday morning while on duty. Officials said the officer was working an overnight shift on foot patrol after a rash of break-ins in the area.
"During that time, the officer was struck by a motor vehicle that was passing by," Chief Ryan Oleson said. Oleson said he can't release the officer's name, the extent of his injuries or where he was hit, but he said it happened about 12:30 a.m. Monday, and the officer will be OK.
State police are investigating, but authorities wouldn't say if the driver has been identified or arrested. The officer was patrolling the area after several break-ins in cars, properties and businesses. David Bushey, co-owner of Smiley Produce, said someone stole money from a lockbox outside the business.
"Whatever money we had in there was stolen," Bushey said.
Down the road, Jacob Brendle's shed was ripped open. He said he has seen more police patrolling the area since the break-ins.
"They are out really late at night," he said. "It's all been localized on this little strip of Route 112."
Oleson said the rest of the department is trying to move forward while the injured officer recovers.
