New Jersey: DPW worker struck by car in hit-and-run
A Paramus Department of Public Works employee suffered a broken ankle and foot Friday when he was struck by a motorist while collecting garbage. The 30-year-old man was collecting residential garbage from the curb on the 200 block of Forest Avenue at about 6:50 a.m. when a car driving south in the right lane struck him.
The worker saw the vehicle coming and tried to jump onto the truck to avoid being hit, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said in a press release. The sanitation truck had multiple warning lights that were functioning at the time he was struck, he said.
The car is described as a grey or silver Honda. It continued traveling south on Forest Avenue with out stopping. The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by Paramus EMS.
