Ohio: Deputy and driver remain in hospital after being hit by car
A family is asking drivers to slow down after their loved one and a deputy were hit by a driver Monday night. Troopers say Deputy Lyle Campbell was responding to another crash on U-S 33 near Pickerington road in Violet Township when it happned.
Deputy Campbell had surgery for broken bones and is recovering from other injuries. The other victim, Bill Allman, a driver in the original crash, is in a medically induced coma.
Investigators say Deputy Campbell was interviewing Allman whose truck was hit, and they were standing off to the side of the road. That's when a driver hit both of them.
Allman's family says they want drivers to slow down and pay attention, especially during the holidays.
Lacey Dawes says her father Bill Allman is well respected in the community and known to always give back. Allman owns an auto repair shop in Lancaster where his family says he is always helping out veterans and law enforcement officials.
Deputy Campbell has been with the Fairfield County Sheriff's department for seven years. Sheriff Dave Phalen says Deputy Campbell is a hard worker and does a lot to keep drugs off the streets.
The driver of the crash hasn't been charged. Troopers say the accident remains under investigation.
