Utah: Police officer hit by car during wrong-way crash investigation on I-15 in Murray

A Kaysville Police officer participating in a ride-along with UHP was hit by a car during an investigation into a wrong-way crash on I-15.

The wrong-way crash sent two people to the hospital in critical condition early Tuesday morning. The driver accused of causing the crash was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He has been identified as Corbin G. Celetto, 28, from Draper.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. near 5300 South in Murray.

Utah Highway Patrol says Celetto was driving a Toyota SUV northbound in the southbound lanes at highway speeds when he hit a Ford Econoline van near 5300 South.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital in critical condition. UHP said Celetto smelled of alcohol and was arrested at the hospital.

"The vehicles are severely damaged. It's kind of a miracle both drivers were conscious and breathing right after the incident when first responders were on scene," UHP spokesperson Sgt. Nick Street said.

While observing the investigation of the wrong way crash, UHP said a female law enforcement officer with Kaysville Police Department was participating in a ride-along when she was hit by a passing vehicle.

"She was out observing UHP troopers in action. I'm not sure if she was trying to help or what the situation was exactly, but she was struck by an oncoming vehicle," Sgt. Street said.

The officer has since been transported to a local hospital with a concussion and torn ligaments in her leg.
