• Los Angeles Police Officer Dies of Struck-By Injuries

  Relatives, friends and thousands of uniformed officers gathered for the funeral of 51-year-old Los Angeles police motorcycle Officer Chris Cortijo, hailing him as a guardian angel who watched over Southland motorists for more than two decades. Cortijo, a 26-year-veteran and former Marine, was struck April 5 by an SUV driven by an allegedly drug-impaired driver while stopped at a red light at Lankershim Boulevard and Saticoy Street in Sun Valley. He died four days later. • Los Angelis Police Officer Who was Struck Dies

  A veteran LAPD motorcycle officer died Wednesday, several days after he was struck by an SUV driven by a woman suspected of being under the influence of cocaine. Fellow officers and family members had been holding vigil for Chris Cortijo — a member of the department for nearly 27 years — at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center since the Saturday accident.
