  • Maryland Police Focus on Mover Over Law

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police and Maryland State Police (MSP) have joined forces to increase motorist awareness of Maryland's Move Over Law. This law requires drivers approaching an emergency vehicle using visual signals while stopped on a highway to, if possible, make a lane change into an available lane not immediately adjacent to the emergency vehicle. This movement should only be done if another lane in the same direction is available and the move can be made safely and without impeding other traffic. If moving to another lane away from the stopped emergency vehicle is not possible, the law requires drivers to slow to a reasonable and prudent speed. As part of this effort, today, from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., the MDTA Police and MSP will join forces to conduct a traffic-safety initiative targeting violations of Maryland's Move Over Law along the entire stretch of I-95 in Maryland.
