Texas: Officials identify Lufkin Police officer hit by vehicle

Friday, May 10, 2019

A Lufkin Police officer was hit by a vehicle while working an accident Saturday afternoon.

According to a spokeswoman for the department, Officer Seth Thompson was working a minor accident on Timberland Drive that occurred around 12:30 p.m. The vehicles involved pulled into the Cox Muffler parking lot, where a secondary accident which injured Thompson occurred around 12:52 p.m.

Officials say, Thompson was conscious and alert following the crash, but had to be flown to an out of town hospital. He is said to be in stable condition and talking with doctors and family.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 12:40 p.m., a Lufkin Police Officer was out of his marked patrol unit (with emergency lights activated) investigating a crash in the parking lot of a local business when a northbound 2006 Toyota SUV, for unknown reasons, drove off the roadway to the left and struck the rear of the police vehicle. The collision caused the police vehicle to strike the officer.

The driver of the Toyota is identified as 40-year-old Nakishia Samuels from Lufkin. Samuels was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin for treatment.
