The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that the CVVFA was awarded a Fire Prevention and Firefighter Safety Grant for $429,048 to continue its work on protecting emergency responders on the highways. The grant funds ResponderSafety.com and the ResponderSafety Learning Network the world’s largest repository of information to protect firefighters and other roadway responders from injury as they work to help others during traffic incidents. The grant will support new direct delivery materials and on line individual training all delivered though the ResponderSafety.com platforms.

The grant also will provide funds for the second phase of an aggressive Public Education campaign to inform motorists how distracted and careless drivers place responders in peril while they work highway emergency scenes. The campaign aims to change driver behavior.

“We are elated that we can continue our life safety work on the highways” said Steve Austin, Project Manager of the CVVFA/Emergency Responder Safety Institute. “Our team has been working for over 18 years along with many valued partners in the fire service, law enforcement, the towing and recovery industry and public works to educate, inform and advocate on behalf of all those who risk their lives working to help others during traffic incidents. We could not provide our services without the FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program” he added.
