California: Procession Honors Local Tow Truck Driver
Family and coworkers of a tow truck driver who was hit and killed over the weekend held a rolling memorial Wednesday morning to pay tribute to the man. Jabar Issa, a father of three, was struck and killed by a pickup truck Saturday morning while helping a driver fix a flat tire on State Route 78 in San Marcos. He was on the call for his company Sky Towing when the pickup veered off the road and struck him. A second tow truck driver was also seriously injured in the crash. Georgia: Fund Set Up for Firefighter Hit by Pickup Truck
A firefighter struck by a vehicle while on duty in Haralson County on Tuesday evening might not be back on the job for a while. According to troopers with the Georgia State Patrol, Curtis Wilson, 31, responded to a fuel spill in the southbound lanes of Georgia Highway 100 near Interstate 20. They say Wilson was standing in the lane of traffic when he was struck by a pickup truck. He was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. A fund has been set up to help Wilson, who is a full-time firefighter in Paulding County, but works part time for Haralson County. The funds go through the North American Blue Police & Fire Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) charity, but will go directly to Wilson.

Maryland: Paramedic Erik Steciak Remembered as Intensely Dedicated, Energetic
Friends, family and first responders from across Maryland converged in Howard County Sunday to say goodbye to a fire captain and paramedic killed while responding to an accident in Harford County.It was a solemn farewell full of memories and heartfelt stories about Steciak. Looking out at the crowd of mourners, his twin brother, Daniel Steciak, said it's clear that the first responder touched lives for the better.

Maryland: Pikesville VFD has a Busy Sunday Morning During Ice Storm
Sunday morning's icy weather kept Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company crews busy with multiple emergency calls. Around 7:30 a.m., Squad 322 was dispatched for a motor vehicle crash on interstate 795 Northbound, followed shortly with Tower 323 beiong dispatched for a crash involving an MTA bus at the Milford Mill Metro station with multiple injuries. After clearing the I-795 call, Squad 322 was then dispatched to a crash in Randallstown with one vehicle on its side and two people trapped, followed by a response back to I-795 where a vehicle lost control approaching the earlier crash and struck a Baltimore County Police officer. Due to an extreme shortage of medics across the county, Squad 322 transported the police officer, who had minor injuries, to an area hospital. PVFC later responded to another crash with a vehicle on its side and people trapped in Pikesville at Stevenson Road & Englemeade Road.

Indiana: State Police Remember Fallen Trooper
Thursday marked 15 years since an Indiana State Police trooper from the agency's Bremen post died after being hit by a vehicle along an icy state highway in Kosciusko County. Trooper Jason E. Beal died Jan. 15, 2000, a day before his 25th birthday. The state police released a statement honoring Beal on the anniversary of his death.

No Cost National TIM Responder Train the Trainer Course Enrollment Period Open at the National Fire Academy
Attention all Public Safety, DOT and Towing and Recovery Trainers, a scheduled and perhaps the final opportunity to attend the National Traffic Incident Management Train the Trainer Course takes place February 27, 28-March 1, 2015 at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg MD. There is NO COST for this training other than the cost of meals at the academy cafeteria. Expenses including travel are included.

Pennsylvania: Dance at East Huntingdon VFD to Aid Injured Trooper
Working to clear discarded wooden pallets from Route 119 while on duty in October, Pennsylvania State Trooper George E. Hare Jr. was struck by a vehicle and sustained a multitude of injuries. Realizing the costs associated with a long-term ailment or disability, members of the community have rallied together to support the trooper and his family. Partial proceeds from the monthly dance that will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday at the East Huntingdon Volunteer Fire Department hall will be donated to the family.

Virginia: Dozens of tow trucks circle Beltway in memory of driver killed in December
On Sunday January 11, 2015, more than 140 tow truck operators drove around a large portion of the Beltway to honor the memory of a tow truck driver who was killed in December and attempt to prevent similar crashes.

The long awaited Standard for Traffic Control Incident Management Professional Qualifications was issued in January 2015 by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This multi-disciplinary document includes Job Performance Requirements (JPR’s). It was written by and for roadway responders.
