Florida: Medical chopper responding to crash struck by separate vehicle

A medical helicopter needs to be repaired after it was hit by a car at the scene of an earlier crash overnight. It happened at the U.S. 192 and State Road 429 interchange near Walt Disney World around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said the chopper was there to pick up a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle. The driver of a separate vehicle went through barricades set up around the earlier crash scene, a lieutenant said, and appears to have struck the helicopter's tail.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of the vehicle that hit the chopper, identified as Cameron Brian Sunderly, 20, of Clermont, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The company that operates the helicopter issued a statement, saying it's thankful the crew and patient were not hurt in the second crash.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.
