  • Texas: Officer struck by vehicle Friday doing better

    An off-duty Corpus Christi Police officer who was struck by a car Friday night said he is doing better and is back home. On Friday night, Officer Travis Pace and his wife, who is also a CCPD officer, pulled over to help a man whose minivan had broken down in the 1200 block of Glen Oak Drive in Flour Bluff. Another man had stopped and began to help directing traffic with a flashlight, while Pace as trying to tow the minivan. That's when another driver started heading directly toward the minivan. The man directing traffic yelled "Watch out!" and Pace tried to get out of the way, but his leg was caught and pinned between two vehicles. "If that individual, Brian, was not out directing traffic and had not warned us, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation today," said Pace. "He's a big big big factor. I want to say a special thank you to him." Pace's injuries were not serious, but he was taken to the hospital with leg bruising. He was later released. As for the 67-year-old driver who struck the officer, he was taken to the hospital. His condition has not been released.

    A tow truck driver was struck by a passing motorist as he came to the aid of another driver, Thursday evening.

    An Indiana State Trooper was hospitalized for a time Monday after the squad car he was sitting in was struck by another vehicle while he was involved with a traffic stop in Indianapolis. The driver of the Chevy Trailblazer that hit the squad car initially told investigators he might have fallen asleep just prior to the crash on Shadeland Avenue just north of 38th Street. He later changed his story.
