  • Texas Officer Struck and Killed on Interstate 10

    A West Texas police officer has been struck and killed in a chain-reaction traffic accident while trying to remove a ladder from Interstate 10. El Paso police say services are pending for 27-year-old Officer Angel Garcia, who joined the force last March. Authorities say Garcia was hit early Sunday while outside of his patrol vehicle with the lights flashing as he attempted to haul the ladder from the road. Police believe as many as four vehicles, including the police car, were part of the accident.   • Washington Tow-Truck Driver Dies in Crash on Snowy Snoqualmie Pass

    Jason Halstead, a Washington tow-truck driver was struck and killed Sunday afternoon December 16 while operating on Interstate 90. He was working to tow away a car in near whiteout conditions. He had just arrived at the scene and exited his tow truck when a westbound pick-up lost control, came across both lanes, and struck him, killing him instantly.

  • Wyoming Tow Truck Driver Struck and Killed

    A Gillette man is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after hitting and killing a tow truck operator with his car Sunday night. The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the driver, 28-year-old Justin Helsper, was "quite impaired" when he struck 65-year-old Larry Schofield, who was on the scene of another crash with a deer on the on-ramp to Interstate 90 at exit 126. The driver fled the scene, but officers caught up with him about three miles down the road.

  • North Carolina Tow Truck Driver Killed by Car While Changing Tire; Driver in Jail

    Highway Patrol says one person is dead and another is behind bars after a hit and run on Carolina Beach Road at McQuillan Drive Sunday night. Anthony Thompson, 50, is charged with second degree murder after hitting John Junior Colville, 55, and then driving away from the accident. Thompson is also charged with driving while impaired, habitual impaired driving, driving while license revoked and hit and run with injury. He has eight prior DWI convictions.   • New York: Nassau County Officer Struck and Killed

    Nassau County Police Officer Joseph Olivieri who responded to an accident on the Long Island Expressway was killed in the early morning hours of Thursday October 18, 2012 when he was struck by another vehicle passing the scene of the crash. The crash occurred at 4:43 a.m. on the eastbound roadway near exit 35 in North Hills. "It was a line-of-duty death." "He was struck by a vehicle while investigating an auto accident."

  • Montreal Canada Officer Struck and Killed

    A 33-year-old Sûreté du Québec officer died early Sunday morning after being hit by a passing car while he conducted a speed radar operation north of Montreal. Donovan Lagrange was the second SQ officer to die on the job in Quebec in less than two weeks. Lagrange worked at the SQ’s highway division, and had been a police officer for nine years, said SQ Sgt. Catherine Coulombe.

  • Virginia State Trooper Struck and Killed at State Fair

    A Virginia state trooper suffered fatal injuries Friday night when he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic in Hanover County, police said. Virginia State Police identified the fallen trooper as Andrew D. Fox. The 27-year-old trooper was assigned to Pulaski County but was at the fair on special assignment.   • Ohio Tow Truck Driver Struck and Killed on I-71

    On Saturday morning September 29, 2012, tow truck driver William Houck, 60, of Columbus was standing beside a disabled vehicle while attempting to connect a car to his tow truck when he was hit by a 2008 Nissan sedan. Police say that alcohol is a suspected contributing factor in this crash.   • Missouri: Motorist Assist Worker Killed While Working I-70 Crash

    Authorities said the driver of a Missouri Department of Transportation vehicle was struck and killed while shutting down Interstate 70 in suburban Kansas City after an earlier fatal crash. Clifton J. Scott, 50, who was helping authorities shut down traffic along Interstate 70 following a four-vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes near Lee’s Summit Road. The motorist-assist driver was hit outside his vehicle and died at the scene. Motor-assist drivers patrol major roadways, and their duties include helping with traffic control.   • Louisiana Crossing Guard Killed

    This morning, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 10 at LA Highway 376 which claimed the life of an Evangeline Parish Reserve Deputy Crossing Guard. 60-year-old Reserve Deputy John Granger of Reddell, was directing traffic for Vidrine Elementary at the intersection of LA 10 at LA 376. Two SUVs crashed at the intersection and one of the vehicles hit the Crossing Guard. The Deputy was wearing an orange reflective vest at the time of the crash.
