NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation Reports for "Motor Vehicle - Struck-by" Incidents

  • St. Louis Area Towing Operator Struck and Killed

    A 21-year-old suspect has been charged after a St. Louis-area tow truck driver was killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident in north St. Louis Monday night. Aaron Bogue was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and property damage. He remains in custody on a $50,000 cash-only bond. Police said Bogue struck and killed 51-year-old David Bense Sr., who worked for AAA Auto Club, on Interstate 70 near West Florissant while he was putting down safety flares and assisting a stranded motorist. Bense’s wife said he was on his last call of the night and was wearing a safety vest.   • South Carolina Towing Operator Struck and Killed on I-95

    A Timmonsville, South Carolina man is dead after a vehicle struck him on I-95, near mile marker 175 in Dillon County, Saturday evening April 7, 2012. According to Dillon County Coroner, Donnie Grimsley, James Coffee, 24, died after being struck by a Dodge van headed northbound. Sgt. Bryan McDougald of the Highway Patrol said that Coffee was working for a local wrecker company and was on the scene of a disabled vehicle call when he was hit. The Highway Patrol is currently investigating the scene and no further information regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident can be released at this time.
