Delaware: Service to Honor Delaware City EMT Killed in Line of Duty

A memorial service will be held Friday night on the fifth anniversary of the death of Delaware City emergency medical technician Michelle Newton Smith. She was killed in the line of duty Dec. 20, 2008, in a hit-and-run crash by a disabled motorist on U.S. 13 near New Castle.

Members of the Delaware City Fire Company along with responders who were on the scene the night of Smith’s death will dedicate a road side memorial sign on U.S. 13 (Du Pont Highway) near School Lane, across from the exact location where Smith was killed while driving an ambulance near the New Castle Airport terminal.

The ceremony begins at 6:45 p.m. and is scheduled to last about 30 minutes.
