Colorado: Colorado Chili's locations to hold fundraiser for fallen trooper Monday

All 35 Chili's Grill and Bar locations across the state will hold an all-day fundraiser Monday in honor of Colorado State Patrol trooper Jaimie Jursevics, who was struck and killed last month by an alleged drunk driver while she was investigating a crash.

The restaurant chain will donate 15 percents of sales that day to the trooper's family.

Jursevics died on the night of Nov. 15 on Interstate 25, just south of Castle Rock, after a retired Army colonel allegedly hit the trooper after a day of drinking at a Broncos game, authorities said.

News about her death quickly spread across the state. An employee at a Denver Chili's recognized her as a regular diner and "wanted to do something to help her family," according to a Chili's news release. The idea of "a special day for Trooper Jursevics" made its way to management and became Monday's fundraiser.

Jursevics' husband, Didzis, was contacted by Chili's and asked that the event also benefit the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation and the Flying Wheels Foundation. He told organizers that he'd would return the gesture by donating to the two non-profit organizations that assisted in Jursevics' death.
