  • Ohio: Trooper Puts Crash Injuries in Rearview

    Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Clouser was checking on occupants of a vehicle involved in one of a series of crashes on the Ohio Turnpike near Castalia during a blinding snowstorm last winter when his world suddenly went black. When Trooper Clouser came to — he thinks it was just 10 or 20 seconds later — he was trapped under his cruiser and the van was stopped next to it. He couldn’t feel his right leg, and breathing was painful. Now, after more than 10 months of recovery and rehabilitation, Trooper Clouser is eager to go back out on patrol from the Milan post, where he has been assigned since becoming an Ohio state trooper in 2013. Right now, he estimates his return is Feb. 23, but his bottom-line goal is March 12, the massive crash’s anniversary

  • Pennsylvania: Penn DOT Worker Struck by Vehicle

    A PennDOT contractor was hit by a vehicle Friday in Cumberland County. The contractor was thrown more than 10 feet by the impact on the ramp from 581 west to Interstate 81 north, according to a PennDOT spokesperson.

  • United Kingdom: Video Shows Near Miss with Fire Engine

    This is the shocking moment a car drove straight at a fire engine on its way to a school blaze - narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with the truck. The dramatic video shows other drivers pulling over as the emergency vehicle approaches with lights flashing and sirens blaring. But the driver of a Vauxhall Zafira carries on towards the fire engine and only swerves on to the pavement at the last moment. Mercifully, the stretch of pavement in Bathgate, West Lothian, was empty despite the incident happening on a Friday afternoon, reports the Daily Record.

Illinois State Trooper Douglas Balder was in a medically induced coma for six weeks and has gone through a painful recovery. He and the widow of an officer killed in a similar crash say reckless homicide charges are warranted in both cases.     A young woman suspected of driving a stolen car filled with teenage passengers was shot dead by Denver police on Monday after she struck an officer with the vehicle as he approached on foot, authorities said.

  • Illinois: Pickup Rolls Off Tow Truck into Responding Police Car

    A pickup collided not once, but twice Friday, after it rolled off the back of a tow truck and into a police SUV. Police responded to the crash at 12th and Vermont streets after the pickup truck hit a car. But while loading it on the tow truck, operated by Niehaus Auto, the truck rolled 10 feet off the back into the parked cruiser. No one was hurt and the police car showed no visible damage.

  • Alabama: Anniston Officer Struck by Vehicle While Responding to Traffic Accident

    Anniston police say one of their officers is being treated at the hospital after he was struck while responding to a traffic accident. The officer was working a single-vehicle wreck in the 2500 block of McClellan Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday when he was struck. Police say the suspect fled the scene but has been located and identified.   • North Carolina: Man Arrested After Winston-Salem Police Officer Hit by Vehicle

    A man was arrested on suspicion of hitting a Winston-Salem police officer with a vehicle Tuesday.U.S. Marshals officials said the Winston-Salem officer had pulled over Obrien for a driving violation Tuesday. Obrien hit the officer with his vehicle while pulling away from the traffic stop, U.S. Marshals officials said.

  • Texas: Officer Hit by Car During Police Chase; 2 Arrested

    A Killeen police officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon after being hit during a police chase. Police say they responded to reports of a silver Volkswagen Jetta driving recklessly near Stan Schlueter and Central Texas Expressway just before 1:30 p.m. The caller followed the Jetta onto Stan Schlueter, where police then began pursuing the vehicle.
