Georgia: Baldwin fire chief struck by vehicle

Baldwin Fire Chief Joe Roy has been airlifted to an Atlanta hospital after being struck by a vehicle Saturday morning.  Roy was conscious and talking, according to Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell, but was airlifted to Emory Hospital for treatment.

“They were out on Duncan Bridge Road doing a boot drive and a vehicle pulled into the turning lane and hit him,” Terrell said. The incident happened at the intersection of Duncan Bridge and Mud Creek roads, he said.

The incident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.A firefighter in Habersham County collecting donations for the Empty Boot drive has been airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta after being struck by a pick up truck Saturday morning while standing along Duncan Bridge Road. The Georgia State Patrol is working the incident at the intersection of Duncan Bridge (SR 384) and Mud Creek Roadwhich happened around 10:45.
