Ohio: Fire truck damages support pillar on station

A township truck responding to a fire damaged the fire station when a door on the truck struck a building support pillar. Firefighters were responding shortly before 5 p.m. Friday to a fire on state Route 5 when the door to a compartment of the truck that is used to store gear hit the pillar as the truck pulled away, fire Chief Dennis Lewis said.

A small grass and mailbox fire was put out before the crew arrived, Lewis said. Lewis said the firefighters will receive training to prevent future mistakes. The driver will not be disciplined. He was tested for drugs and alcohol, per department policy, and the tests were negative, Lewis said. Trustees will determine what to do about repairing the building.
