Rhode Island: Cranston police cruiser involved in car accident

A Cranston police cruiser was involved in a car accident Sunday. The crash happened at the intersection of Warwick and Park Avenues, according to authorities.

Police say one officer was transported to the hospital – but was released later in the day. A pickup truck was also involved in the crash, but police say the driver was not injured. Police said two fire trucks and the police cruiser were driving westbound on Park Avenue around 2:15 p.m. According to officials, they were responding to a nearby call.

Police said the fire trucks cleared the intersection, but as the cruiser was coming through behind them, it was struck by the pickup truck, which was driving north on Warwick Avenue. The crash appears to be accidental.
