Ohio: 2 people, including Fairfield County deputy, struck by vehicle

Two people, including a Fairfield County deputy sheriff, were taken to the hospital in critical condition after they were struck by a vehicle.According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at about 7:26 p.m. Monday, Deputy Lyle Campbell, 34, of Stoutsville, Ohio, was investigating a three car crash in the area of U.S. 33 and Pickerington Road in Violet Township. Troopers said while Campbell was investigating the crash, a 68-year-old man from Houston, Texas, was traveling westbound on U.S. 33 and struck Campbell and another man, 46-year-old William Allman of Groveport, Ohio.

Both men were taken to Grant Medical Center. Allman is listed in serious condition.

Campbell, suffered severe leg injuries but his injuries are not life threatening, according to Sheriff Dave Phalen. Campbell is a 13-year veteran with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating, but troopers said alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash.
