Georgia: Snellville officer nearly struck by car

A Snellville police officer was almost hit by a car after she confronted a man about having sex with a minor in a park on Saturday. Sgt. Rain Nieddu said she was at Briscoe Park with her K-9 when she saw a naked man on top of a half-naked girl in the backseat of a car at about 9:55 p.m.

Nieddu walked to the car to speak to them and they got out and got dressed, according to a Snellville police report. She said the man later identified as Kevin Hill got behind the wheel and drove the car in reverse with Nieddu wedged in the car door and frame. Hill continued accelerating as Nieddu yelled for him to stop, according to the report. The officer said Hill made a sharp turn and started to drive in a circle.

Nieddu was still wedged and could not reach her stun gun or weapon, the police report said. “I believed at this time that he was trying to get me to fall off so he could run me over with his vehicle and I was in fear for my life,” she said. Eventually she was tossed from the car onto the pavement, barely avoiding being hit by the tires while Hill continued, according to the report.

The girl suffered injuries as she rode in the passenger seat with her door still open. Snellville Police Officers Kevin Seay and Jacob Callaway responded and said they chased Hill toward Rockdale County and then said they were traveling toward Walton County on Pleasant Hill Road.

Hill turned left onto Rosebud Road, then turned onto Pate Road and headed back into the Snellville, according to the police. At some point, Hill reportedly tossed marijuana out the window.  Hill was recklessly driving as he ran a red light, almost hit another car and nearly lost control when his tires blew out, police said.

The officers eventually arrested Hill at state Route 124 and Egypt Road. Nieddu is recovering from her injuries, and Hill was eventually taken to the Gwinnett County jail and faces multiple charges.
