Texas: Beaumont officer struck by alleged drunk driver

On January 30, at about 1:30 a.m., a Beaumont Police officer was traveling east in the 2500 block of Sweetgum Lane, en route to a call, BPD PIO Haley Morrow reported. A black Honda Civic was also traveling westbound in the 2500 block of Sweetgum Lane. The driver of the Honda Civic was traveling in the center of the roadway, which caused the officer to pull his patrol unit to the side of the road to avoid collision.

The driver of the Honda Civic continued westbound, crossed the eastbound lane, and struck the officer’s patrol unit, then continued driving. The officer was still able to operate the patrol vehicle and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, however, the driver continued to flee, until finally stopping the vehicle in the 2800 block of Louisiana Street.

The driver, identified as Anibal Rocael Garcia-Chun, a 29 year old Beaumont man, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and evading detention in a motor vehicle.  The officer involved did not suffer any injuries.
