North Carolina: Fire truck ‘blocker’ damaged by passing driver
A fire truck from Buck Shoals Volunteer Fire Department sustained damage after it was struck by a vehicle on July 21, 2018. Yadkin County Emergency Services personnel were on the scene of an emergency call involving a tour bus at the 66 mile marker on I-77. According to a Facebook post from Union Grove Fire and Rescue, Buck Shoals was providing traffic control for the towing company. About an hour into the event, a vehicle side swiped the “blocker” apparatus, (Station 21’s tanker) resulting in no injuries. However, a short time later the blocker apparatus was struck again, as well as a service truck with the towing company. The Buck Shoals “blocker” was in place to provide protection for emergency workers and tow truck driver on the scene. Officials said they want to remind drivers of the importance of slowing down and moving over when emergency lights are visible on the roadside.
