Florida: Sanitation Company Says That Drivers are Ignoring Move-Ovwer Law

A sanitation company reports Florida drivers are ignoring a new law requiring people to slow down and move over for sanitation and utility workers. Many are familiar with the rules surrounding giving space to police and emergency vehicles on the side of the road; however, in Florida starting in July 2014, that law was extended to sanitation and utility works as well.

The law requires drivers to move over and leave one lane between their vehicle and the work truck, van, or car. If there is not space to allow a lane in between, the law requires drivers to either slow down 20 miles per hour below the speed limit or if the speed limit is 20mph, drivers should go just 5 miles per hour around the workers.
