(WA)(6-13-2021) Off-Duty Seattle Police Officer Struck and Killed at Crash Scene

A Seattle police officer heading home from work was hit and killed on Interstate 5 early Sunday morning, while trying to help at the scene of a crash, according to Washington State Patrol. In an update shared Sunday evening, a WSP spokesperson outlined the timeline of events and said troopers were still searching for one driver involved in the initial crash, who then fled the scene in the officer's personal vehicle.

According to the Seattle Times, the officer's family identified her as Alexandra Brenneman Harris, 38, a Seattle native and member of the Seattle Police Department for five years.

"The SPD officer had just left work when they happened upon a collision on I-5 near South Forest Street. At this point in the investigation, it appears the officer pulled their vehicle over and got out to check on the drivers involved in the collision. While the officer was outside the vehicle, an additional motorist struck and killed the officer.
