(MD)(07-05-2022) AAA worker fatally struck by SUV on Route 50

A worker with AAA was fatally struck Tuesday night, July 5th, on U.S. Route 50 in Prince George's County.

Anthony Okozi, 69, of Upper Marlboro, died at the scene in the westbound lanes of Route 50 near Collington Road in the Bowie area, according to Maryland State Police.

State police said troopers were called around 11:15 p.m. for a crash report. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates Okozi brought fuel to a disabled van that was stopped partially in the left lane and left shoulder of Route 50.

Okozi's AAA vehicle was parked directly behind the disabled van with emergency yellow strobe lights activated and traffic cones placed on the roadway, police said.

Police said an SUV swerved left to avoid the AAA vehicle and struck Okozi as he fueled the disabled van. Police said Okozi was wearing a reflective vest at the time of the crash.
