(NC) One killed in I-95 crash after tractor trailer driver hits dump truck, service truck and mechanic

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- At least one person is dead on Monday morning after a three-vehicle crash on I-95 N in Cumberland County.

This happened around 6:30 a.m. at mile marker 53 near Fayetteville and NC-24.

Investigators told ABC11 News that a disabled dump truck was parked in the breakdown lane, with a service truck nearby on the side of the road.

A tractor-trailer driver sideswiped both vehicles, hitting the mechanic and rear-ending the dump truck. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. ABC11 is working to confirm their identity.

The driver of the dump truck was trapped inside the cab but was eventually freed and taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

The semi-truck driver has been charged with failure to maintain lanes and death by motor vehicle. Additional charges may be imposed as the investigation progresses.
