LAKELAND INDUSTRIES IS CHARTER MEMBER OF THE BREAK-AWAY HONOR ROLL

Lakeland Industries, who formerly acquired Mifflin Valley Reflective, and is one of the largest and most aggressive manufacturers of Hi-Visibility Apparel in the market, became the Charter Member of the CVVFA Emergency Responder Safety Institute Break-Away Honor Roll.

The Break-Away Honor Roll is reserved for companies who pledge in writing that they will produce a line of vests that meet the ANSI 207 Public Safety Vest Standard AND that include a minimum of a 4 point break-away feature.

Despite opposition the ANSI 207 Public Safety Vest Standard was issued with break-aways as optional not mandatory features.

The CVVFA Emergency Responder Safety Institute (ERSI) is publicly calling on all manufactures who intend to produce Public Safety Vests under the new standard to pledge that all their Public Safety Vests will have a minimum of 4 point break-away.

The ERSI endorses a five point break-away that includes the 2 shoulders, 2 sides and front closure but in no case less than 4 points which mean the front closure could be secured with other fasteners. Mifflin valley will make a garment with 5 points if specified but in no case will it produce a vest with less than 4 point break-away.

In a letter to ERSI Mike Gallen of Lakeland wrote, "Lakeland ...pledges and will continue to market and promote the Public Safety Garment (VEST) that includes the minimum 4-point Break-away system." He added "We will strive in the development and technology, bringing greater safety and visibility to all individuals especially the public safety sector and in particular the Emergency Service Industry"

Steve Austin, Project Manager for ERSI welcomed Lakeland as the first member of the Break-Away Honor Roll. "It doesn't surprise us that Lakeland is the first member of what we hope is a long list of high visibility garment manufacturers." Mifflin Valley who is now a part of Lakeland has supported highway ERSI safety efforts since the formation of the group in 1998. "As a leader in the market place Lakeland often leads the way" he added.

ERSI relies solely on self certification by the manufacturer that their product is manufactured and labeled to the ANSI 207 Public Safety Vest Standard.
