SouthCarolina: NCPD officer struck on I-26; Woman charged with felony DUI

Law enforcement agencies are investigating a crash that sent a North Charleston police officer to a hospital early this morning. Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say 24-year-old Wendy Burnett has been charged with felony DUI in the incident.

They say it happened at around 2:30 a.m. on I-26 westbound near exit 211. Troopers say the officer stopped the driver of a Dodge van for a traffic violation and as he was outside his vehicle, Burnett drove by and struck the officer's vehicle. Officials say the officer's car then struck the officer.

It's believed the officer's injuries are not life-threatening.

ABC News 4 has heard from several sources that Wendy Burnett is an employee of Charleston County School District.

We reached out to CCSD for confirmation, and this is the response we received:

"We are aware of the situation involving Ms. Burnett. The Charleston County School District is gathering information, and at this time, we have no further comment."
