GUEST EDITORIAL BY LARA FEINBERG

We works so hard to teach our children right from wrong. We teach them to hold hands and look both ways before crossing the street. We never pull out of our driveways until they are buckled in tight. But, who takes care of you? Who watches out for those who don the uniforms each and every day working our nation's highways?

We are too big to have someone remind us to look both ways. We are too big to have someone hold our hands when crossing the street, but we are not too big to protect ourselves. It is up to us to make sure we make it home to the ones we love at the end of our shifts. It is up to us to protect others, but it is also up to us to protect ourselves. How can we do it? Education!

Teaching motorists to obey our Move Over Laws is as easy as teaching them to buckle up, but it takes time, effort and energy. Last week, I had the privilege of being part of a Move Over Law press conference. The Henderson Co., NC Sheriff's Office working "across the border" with the Greenville Co., SC Sheriff's Office and other agencies, dedicated a press conference and enforcement period to their state's Move Over Laws. The feedback we received was outstanding and many other agencies are wanting to now do the same in their areas.

Can you do it? Can you make a dozen phone calls to other law enforcement, fire, emergency and towing departments in your area? Then, call up all of your local media outlets and plan a press conference. In thirty minutes you can save hundreds of lives. Can you do it? Take the challenge and save the lives of those who stand by your side everyday....your lives depend on it.
