I-55 Rest Stops Dedicated to Illinois Trooper Killed During Traffic Stop
A memorial sign on Thursday was placed on Interstate 55 near Litchfield to honor the life of an Illinois State Police officer who was struck and killed by a semi truck during a traffic stop in November 2012. Trooper Kyle Deatherage was conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder of northbound I-55 at mile marker 62 on Nov. 26 when he was struck by the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
