Illinois: • Unmarked police truck, squad car struck; two in vehicle tried to flee on foot

A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly hitting two police vehicles during a chase. About 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, an officer was in an unmarked truck in the 2300 block of West Ann Street when a vehicle sideswiped his truck, according to a police report.

The officer followed the vehicle, which turned south onto Madison Park Terrace and west on Proctor Street. The officer turned on his emergency lights and siren and the vehicle accelerated, hitting a police car at Proctor Street and Griswold Street.

Two males got out of the vehicle and started running.

One jumped a fence and fell and was caught by the officer, who subdued him after suspecting he might be reaching for a gun.

Lawrence W. Jackson Jr., 30, of 4020 W. Creighton Terrace was booked on charges that included obstructing an officer, resisting a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, two counts of failure to render aid and fleeing an officer.

Jackson told police he was the passenger, not the driver, but officers noted the passenger door was pinned against a fence. The male passenger, who was given a notice to appear, said Jackson was the driver. Two females in the car were taken to the hospital, and had not yet been interviewed, police said.
