Wisconsin: Endeavor fatal firefighter crash still under investigation a month later

It's been about a month since we told you about a beloved Endeavor firefighter killed by a motorist while responding to an I-39 freeway crash in Marquette County. Saturday afternoon, some of Larry Millard's closest friends were gathered at the village's favorite watering hole.

"He's gonna be missed, I know that he was a very good guy," Steve Harbistine reminisced.

He's surprised weeks later, there's still no update in the case.

"It is kind of slow," he said. Friends like Howard "Buddy" Bohnas Jr. share his shock.

"It's like a burden on ya, taking so long, that's what it feels like anyway," he said.

"This is normal," Wisconsin State Highway Patrol Captain Steven Krueger said. "this is about the time it takes to investigate a crash," he added.

Captain Krueger says preliminary reports point to distracted driving, but accident reconstruction continues.

He says troopers understand the town's frustration with the time-line investigation, but they say this is difficult for them as well.

"This happened to another service provider, like us, this is tough, these are always hard."

The case is expected to be wrapped up in about two weeks. State investigators will decide then whether to recommend charges to the Marquette County DA's Office
