Florida: Trooper Struck by Car Meets With Rescue Workers Who Helped Save His Life
Nearly five months after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was struck and nearly killed on the Dolphin Expressway, he met the five men who helped save his life.
Trooper Carlos Rosario met Tuesday with the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers who responded when he was struck by the car back on March 17. Authorities said the 12-year veteran was standing on the side of the expressway running radar checks when a man who was texting while driving slammed into him.
Fire rescue workers landed a helicopter on the expressway and flew Rosario to the hospital.
"He was really broken, he had a lot of broken bones and a lot of exposed tissue, his face was pretty bad," Lt. Enrique Gonzalez said. "I'm forever in debt with you guys, seriously," Rosario said at Tuesday's reunion. "You guys saved me, you know God used you guys as angels to continue to give me support, to continue to give me hope."
Rosario's recovery is not over but he's now able to get around without wearing a neck brace or using a walker. He's still in rehab but hopes to return to work in a year and a half.
