Texas: Forney Fire Department urges drivers to slow down, move over

A recent crash involving the Irving Fire Department and police department highlights the need to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.

The crash occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2015, on State Highway 183 while firefighters were working a separate crash. An 18-wheeler struck the back of an Irving Fire Department fire truck blocking traffic which resulted in both vehicles overturning.

Three firefighters were injured and taken to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released the next day.

Emergency personnel, now working two crashes, experienced a third crash when another motorist struck the back of an Irving Police Department police cruiser which was unoccupied.

Both the fire truck and the police cruiser were blocking traffic and credited for saving the lives of the first responders assisting in the crashes.

The earlier today and urged drivers to slow down and move over for emergency crews.

Several years ago, a Terrell Volunteer Fire Department fire truck was struck while blocking traffic on the highway for a crash. No injuries were reported.
